Today I caught my redfoot eating the dog's poop in the yard.
Is that safe?

If your dog is perfectly clean (no worms of parasites of any kind) then it would be, but be safe by not letting it eat it.
It is a common tortoise behaviour, our Redfoot's, Russian's and Greek's love our two dogs dried stool when they find it in the yard, we just make sure it happens only once a year.

I nearly pass out every time I see it!

But it has never bothered my redfoots though.
