calcan22 Sep 20, 2003 10:44 AM

hi. i have a sub adult albino leopard gecko. all the sudden one day her right eye was sealed shut like it has pink eye or something. i notice her rubbing that eye up on the glass. its been like this for a week. i put renue eye drops in a couple times a day and right after i do that the eye opens up almost all the way. in case this is imoprtant shes housed with a juvenile albino leopard and an adult golden gecko...if anyone knows what this is or has any advice please let me know. thanks.

It seems like the gecko may have a foreign object lodged within the eye. You can put the gecko into a shower & adjust the water to luke-warm. Keep a light spraying action over the gecko for about 20-30 minutes. You should monitor the gecko to prevent any possible problems. Make sure the water drains well, too. If this technique does not work, you should make an appointment with a vet. If it is an eye infection, most likely, they will prescribe Gentamycin antibiotic eye drops or Terramycin antibiotic opthalmic ointment. I'm not familiar with the Renue eye drops, but I would be wary of using an unknown chemical solution not prescribed for reptiles.

Sorry, I was 1/2 asleep when typing this (not enought coffee). Adjust the water temperature 1st, before putting the gecko under the spraying droplets.

the same thing happened with my adult female albino leopard. (wierd huh?). i took her to the vet and he perscribed some crazy ointment 2 times a day for 5-7 days, it was called "Vetropolycin" and she was back to normal within a day or so. hope this helps you out.
