Savannah eye problem

jimnyc May 25, 2003 05:41 PM

My baby Savannah (about 2-3 months old) seems to be having an issue with his left eye, just like when "we" sometimes wake up with the crusty eyes and have difficulty opening them. After he is awake for awhile, it seems to go away and not bother him, but it happens every time he wakes now for about a week. I've been giving him warm baths and trying to clean him and his cage as much as possible. Has anyone seen this before, and is there anything else I can do? Thanks

well i had a baby savanna and whenever he would wake up his eyelids would swell and he would rub them on a rock or stick. i went to the pet store and they said it could be because he is not getting proper nutrients, so i bought a desert flourescent light and it stopped almost immediately. but if you do have a flourescent light it must not be more than 20 inches away from the lizard for it to obtain the nutrients the light is giving off and should be replaced in 6-8 months with proper time usage (12 hours in summer, 8 hours in winter)

The eyes stick shut on a monitor that is kept too cool. The problem has to do with basic husbandry as noone can prove full spectrum lighting does anything for a monitor. A proper diet gives them vitamin D3 and good basking lights give them proper temps and lighting.
