Opinions on mite killer

spider916 Feb 14, 2010 06:15 PM

Which product is better for killing mites on snakes, Provent a mite or Black knight. I need something that will work well. I have one snake that is isolated and has mites, it was a rescue. She is eating great and appears to be in great shape other than the mites. Thank you

Go with the Provent a Mite. We tried BK here and it was like miracle grow for the mites. I will never try it again. De-flea is good as well. I have heard a lot of good things about Provent a Mite though from others on here. I wish I could find some in the stores around here.

Permathrin tick repellant, which is available at most sporting goods stores, is the same exact formula as provent a mite, and costs a fraction of the price.

I've never used BK but when I got mites I tried a whole bunch of different mite remedies and none worked until I ordered a few cans of Provent a mite online. It worked amazing and I have been mite free for several years now. I highly recommend it. Hard to find in local stores but easy enough to find online. Good luck!

Never tried it, but I heard Wal-Mart brand (Equate) bed spray works great!

sisco Feb 14, 2010 10:30 PM

Go to your local wal-mart or drug store...and get box of NIX head lice treatment ...then mix it very lightly in some water..not to strong .....(It is safe for human skin) and put in a spray bottle and spray snake and entire area down until their gone.

provent a mite definately!!! I had tried several things and nothing worked. I ordered provent a mite online and it was awesome. Haven't had any problems since. IMPORTANT* follow instructions exactly to the letter!*

Frontline spray like on your dog but a spray. Stays in the skin and kills mites weeks later. Only re-apply if the snake sheds within 2 weeks.

Used it on literally thousands of reptiles now with all mites eradicated. Treated an entire pet store when we bought it. The previous owners allowed mites, we dont!

Also, not toxic to humans like the others.
