POLL: After the ban attempts

Jonathan_Brady Feb 14, 2010 07:47 PM

After the ban attempts, if boas are "safe" and NOT listed on the injurious list via S373 or by the USFWS, that should provide some insulation against further Federal attempts at regulation. Will you then:

- Buy more boas than you have in the past?
- Buy fewer boas than you have in the past?
- Buy boas at the same rate as you have in the past?

Post your vote and share why!

Thanks,
jb

More. (But not right away)

combs reptiles Feb 14, 2010 08:51 PM

fewer, because im cleaning house anyhow, and i will keep only 1 pair.maybe 1.2 of something really special. What we need to do is defeat this stupid thing and put folks in office that will not try and do this again.
But im getting back to small and focused and that way if something were to happen in future i wouldnt be in the hole too bad.
Even if boas get put on this list, id like to have a couple. The govt will never, never, NEVER stop us from keeping and breeding and "trading" boas with each other...NEVER!!!

Dont tread on me!!!

I feel that if I could make a million off my animals all the better because it could allow me to buy more and more. Considering that this is not the case I will still grow my collection and have a group of animals to druel over. If they breed great if not I will always have the animals I love. I am a boa lover at heart and will always grow my collection no matter the case. Boas to me are like a kid walking into a candy store. There are just to many flavors to choose from. Here are a few of my favorites in my collection. Enjoy Mike Masters

I will continue at the same rate. Its never really been about the money or the legislation, its the love of the animals. The thing that would really suck if this passes is the genetic diversity/ genetics would be lost for a lot of local species and newer morphs. Lets say you want a blood boa in ohio and there are no bloods in ohio. What are your odds of producing one of these randomly from a litter. Its probably almost impossible unless you are doing a ton of litters. i did read one time that someone produced the first T argentine and motley argentine in the same facility. Wow I wonder what those chances are. They should of bought a lottery ticket, if you dont call that winning the lottery!

I have continued to buy at the same rate as the past , and will continue to buy. I will fight for what I believe in, and will not be defeated by loud mouthed politicians. Thank you for being a leader in this fight. We can only win if we stick together. Keep buying selling and trading. It is the American way !

Bill S. Feb 15, 2010 09:50 AM

Probably the same rate.* I'm not a breeder or seller; just a herper with a fascination and love for the animals. My animals are my pets.

Bill

*I might be tempted to try my hand at breeding, but not right away.

I actually just sold a few high end animals and am buying one this week. So, this law is not stoping me(and others)now. Of course it wont stop me later. As I will buy whatever animal I like or need. I must say tho, Im not looking for new projects because lack of space and time. But I will continue to breed my current projects and sell and trade the high end animals I produce.

I'll continue to buy. However, I've been moving towards the Dwarf Species.

It's not that I want to part with my big ones, because I'm keeping some of them as well.

I just figure if I get the Dwarfs, I'll have more room for more boas.

I have 3 more "pairs" to finish my "want/wish" list. Then I'll be finished buying for a while.

Treeserpent Feb 15, 2010 12:38 PM

I still need to find the right jungle,pp t plus, marron and key west. No cheap order. No worries. No hurries. All in due time.

Pithons Feb 15, 2010 03:00 PM

Yea, the one boa Im purchaseing now is the last one I need.. What type of Jungle are you looking for

Treeserpent Feb 15, 2010 04:30 PM

High color hi contrast.Frank M knows what i'm talking about. But I would like to have one with a chainlink pattern. I'm looking for the block looking chain pattern not the circle. Clean crisp pattern little black flecking. Doesn't have to be het for anything.I've seen jungles with the red lookin eyes as well. that would be cool. Pink head....... I know I'm picky but when you gonna have it for hopefully 20- 25 years you gotta be happy with what your lookin at.

Pithons Feb 15, 2010 06:23 PM

Yea, I know what your talking about.. Im the same way.. Im gonna be getting a burmese python to keep as a long term pet and I want something special. So Im very picky. You gotta be.

BoaRepublic Feb 15, 2010 01:46 PM

I will continue at the same rate! I never slowed down getting what I like and need!

Even if boas end up being 'safe' this time around, I don't believe that our opponents will just give up and I can foresee a time when someone will draft some new legislation putting them back on the chopping block again. As such, I don't plan on buying a LOT more boas but will be buying a few more just to fill out my collection. Also, I probably won't be breeding them as much as I might have a few years ago.

mike_panic Feb 15, 2010 06:05 PM

I will stay the course as they say. I think anyone who has sold their collection because of this nonsense, may live to regret it. Mike Panichi

More, I want to be able to have a better collection to hand down to my kids before they figure out how to get a successful ban in place.

AbsoluteApril Feb 16, 2010 02:30 PM

Honestly, I will buy fewer but the only reason is because my collection is pretty much exactly where I want it to be and I want to keep it managable. During this last year the 'ban' talk didn't slow me down.

I'll probably spend more money, but buy less animals. This is not because of the ban though.

I decided to use bigger cages than I had originally planned on, so have a MUCH smaller capacity than I though I would.

Also, I have most of the stuff that I wanted and now want to focus on VPI live T pos stuff-sunglows, sunglow mots, t pos snows and none of the ingredients for these guys are cheap (to me at least.)

The main point is, let's not let these bans pass even for just burms and retics!

Good luck, everyone!

I plan to keep the adult boas I already have until they die of old age no matter what but will probably only add a couple more to my collection.
