I have a small three toed box turtle and was wondering if anyone knows any good sites for care information. He is about 2.5 - 3 inches if that helps any. In info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jeff

He is going to need alot of humidity. He will also need soil to dig down deep into. A water dish deep enough to cover his back legs when they are out. If you don't have full spectrum lighting you will need to take him outside every day for at least 30 min. But make sure he doesn't over heat!!! Do you know how old he is? I am kinda doing a study on Three toed Box turtles. Would you mind if i included him in it? I have 3 three toed boxies myself and i am hoping for babies this year!!!
BTC (Box Turtle Conservation)
that's what i am calling the project.
I've had one three toed box turtle for 21 years now, and have had several others through the years. Currently I have two juveniles and 11 adults outdoors in a 15 by 30 feet enclosure.
What kind of a study are you doing?
You see, i like to study if the enviroment effects the how fast box turtles grow or does captive care effect a box turtle's natural behavior. So in other words i try to see if different things we do to keep box turtles in captivity affect the way they would naturally do the same behavior in the wild. So, by studying these different things i may be able to come up with better way to take care of your Box Turtles. But the only reason i study just three toed box turtles is becuase they are currently the only ones i own. So i can go out in the wild and study what wild three toed box turtles do and then come back home and study how my captives do the same thing or if they do it at all and if they don't then i try to figure out ways to make them have to do that behavior. I am just trying to find ways to let 3 toed box turtles have better lives in captivity.
That sounds like an interesting study. Please let us know what results you get.
Steve
