need help picking a new lizard

Antariel Sep 20, 2003 11:30 AM

Hey, I'm posting on behalf of a friend of mine since I don't know much about lizards aside from my own Tegu.. He used to have lizards but wants more since I have mine now, but is being very picky.

Could anyone give some names or pictures of various lizards that have lots of spines and whatnot? My friend specifically said "I want something that looks like a spikey monster that will grow to be huge". If anyone knows of some good ones that fit the bill, lemme know

Thanks!

Bearded dragons have lots of spikes and they grow to be up to 24 inches.

is 24" including the tail or is that just the body length?

Body length... other than that there are a few larger kinds with one row of spikes down the back but I can't think of any bigger ones with spikes all over.

That includes the tail. They have spikes on their heads, and body.

they mite not have spines all over but the green and brown water dragons are lizards that get up to 5 feet in length.also you could look at sailfin lizards as ben seigal has a bout 3-4 babys right now on the classifieds.male iguanas get spikes on their backse when older.the spiny tailed iguanas do too.these are a few oppinions and you can find pics by going to google and look under pics with these names.hope this helps some

He sounds like he wants a lizard for the "cool" factor. If he wants a lizard he shoul pick something with a good personality and make sure he can take care of it.I may be wrong but he sounds like the type that would by a baby alligator or burm. because thier cool not knowing the care they need. just my opinon.

it's not just for the cool factor, he's had lizards before and always takes good care of them.. so i don't think there's anything wrong with being a little picky about how it looks because regardless of what kind it is, it will be in good hands

though caution is a good thing so thanks for the concern ; )
