still hasn't shed...

ooanwfndglryoo Sep 20, 2003 01:03 PM

Hi guys...It's been about 2 weeks since I purchased my beardie and she is now just about 3 months old and she hasn't shed since I got her. Should I be worried?

No not at all. 2 weeks is not long at all, plus when they are settling in it takes them a bit to eat as much as they were before. It would be a great idea to get a gram scale to keep track of growth. Even though they don't shed does not mean they are not growing, and healthy. You should notice when they are about to shed their colors will dull, and they will cloud up a bit. I would only worry if he/she is not yet eating, or getting into a basking routine.

She's eating like a pig crickets and greens....She basks, hides in her cave and runs around the tank chasing crickets. I did measure a 1/2 inch growth snout to tail....She's now 8inches

Are you kiddin that's super for 2 weeks in a new place. He'll be shedding soon enough. Not sure if you do or not, but since I know how many a growing dragon can eat, you can order a box of 1000 off the internet from reptilefood.com or another place closer to you and save a bundle, and feed them as much as they need to grow nice and healthy. It cost about 13-14 bucks for 1000 shipped to your door. Beats buying from a pet store for 12 for a dollar. 1/2 inch growth is super for a new dragon in two weeks.

Right now we're sitting out in the sun and I'm typing on my laptop. I REALLY need to get my PowerSun and 48" 5.0 bulb. I'm getting sick of sitting outside everyday it's sunny for a half hour-hour =P The thing I noticed that has grown the most has been her spikes...They look alot bigger since when I got her at the monreoville reptile show....She eats about 7-10 crickets in the morning that are dusted with repcal calcium and then about another 10 in the afternoon that are dusted with repcal multivitamin and then a few more at night undusted....She usually has a ready supply of kale, dandilion green, and collard greens all day. Does that sound like a good regimine?

Yes, a bulb for the indoors would be a good buy. I personally use the powersuns. Make sure the inside enclosure is also the right temps for her. They need a nice hot basking spot about 105-110 SURFACE basking temp for a good appetite, and proper digestion. Cool side around 75-85 to let them thermoregulate. As for the routine it's fine, but the numbers of crickets is a bit low. I had babies that ate up around 75 appropriate sized crickets (no bigger then the space between the eyes) a day plus a few bites of the greens/pellets. The average juvi eating around 60 a day in two feedings (one feeding dusted with rep-cal calcium with d3 a day/once a week herptivite multi vitamins) calcium and vitamins are important for proper growth and good health. This is why I suggest ordering in bulk of 1000 they sure will eat a ton while growing. As adults they will eat a lot more greens and finally you'll get a break with the live feeders.
