Flexwatt for Ball Python Rack

kevinvs Feb 17, 2010 07:38 PM

I'm planning on building a rack system for my ball pythons and was wondering if I could get a few pointers from people that have used rack systems and flexwatt heat tape. First of all, I was wondering whether I should go with the 3" tape at 6 or 10 watts, 4" tape at 8 watts, or 11" tape at 20 watts. The bin dimensions are going to be 20"x19"x8".
Next, I was wondering if using a single rheostat with the flexwatt wired in parallel between the cages would regulate the temperature of each cage properly. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks for your time!

Go to this link and call Rich. He will tell you exactly what you need. You want to use 3 inch flex, but depending on how many feet you are going to use will determine the watts, and Rich can calculate that for you.

3" flex watt at 6 watts per foot will heat that size of tub just fine. Run it without a temp controller, and you can see temps over 120F, so a rheostat or thermostat is a must.

I'm using the 3" in a melamine rack with tubs a little larger than yours, there about 24" x 16" x 6" ... and it works good, room temp is and stays around 70-74
