09 SD Gopher

Steve_Craig Feb 17, 2010 09:50 PM

Here's my newest San Diego gopher. He should develope into a nice colorful adult. I also have an 08 animal as well. These are one of the best pits if you want a smaller, rock solid animal. Steve

Here's a couple of pics of my 09 Bull. He's a Spring Green Wisconson locality animal. The adults are yellow with black/maroon blotches on them. Thanks for looking. Steve

Those are both nice Steve, I'm really liking the colors on the first one, cool red/brown eyes.

Thanks Todd. The adults SD gophers have nice yellow along the neck region and orange along tail region.

It's never a good idea to post a precise locale on a public forum; county and state are as far as one should go, if even that far. In addition, the Bullsnake is protected in Wisconsin and has been for the last several years.

Thanks Bruno. Good point about the exact locality, and I agree with you if I had anything to do with these animals as far as finding, collecting, etc. They were purchased from a well known breeder who already has these animals advertised on his website, as well as on kingsnake. As a matter of fact, they've been advertised for quite a while. I don't know the situation with regards to these adult breeders and this particular locality. I guess I didn't give it anymore thought then if I had purchased a Kankakee Bull or Ft. Collins Bull. Steve

I know the breeder you are speaking of, and he is a good guy, I have his bumper stickers- I break for snakes and A good Snake is a Live snake - on my car. He told me when I asked about the WS bulls, that he got the pair from a friend a while back and thats the only locality he works with anymore due to lack of sales interest by his customers in local animals. They are very nice looking bulls however!

BBBruno Feb 20, 2010 10:32 AM

........just because you didn't collect the animals in question. Giving a precise locale is just what knee-jerk politicians feed upon, not to mention the unscrupulous among us, of which there apparently are many. Naming a county or vicinity is one thing, citing a specific town is another, that hurts everyone.

Is it just the locality I posted, or would you be in disagreement with someone posting a pic of a Kankakee, ILL. Bull, & listing it as such? Or a Stillwater OK. Bull? FT. Stockton, Tx? Kingsville, Tx.? I see locality Bulls for sale listed everywhere, right or wrong. If you disagree with all of them, then point taken.
As I said earlier, these Wisconson bulls have been advertised for a few years, and I never gave it much thought of being any different then some of these other localities that are listed for sale. I do respect your's and others opinions on this matter, and would not want to risk the wellfare of a population of animals. Steve

...is not a good comparison, as it represents both a county and a group of counties in Illinois and Indiana known as the Kankakee Sands. Big difference between naming a region and naming a single town.
And no, you're not being singled out; this topic has appeared on this forum before. We herpers are viewed as an easy target for the aforementioned groups, as well as animal right's groups since we don't have the lobby to fight. Unfortunately it appears most folks view this and other forums as little more than a mutual admiration society, rather than as a source of sharing and gaining information, and it seems that those of us who've been around and seen a few things over time (not to mention learnng a few painful lessons along the way)and our insight are not welcome here. Learn on your own, hopefully while there's still time.

Thank you Bart. I can't delete my orginal post, but from here on out the animal will only be mentioned at the state and/or county level. Steve

Couldn't agree with you more! Love that classic "zipper" pattern and red tail. I liked the looks of the 09 batch that I picked mine from that I got two of them...

Great pick up Steve! I think you can look forward to some nice orange tones developing on that cool little annectans.
