ACTUNG! Important News on Corucia zebrata exportation.

Brian-SFCRC Sep 20, 2003 01:30 PM

SOUTHERN FLORIDA CORUCIA RESEARCH CENTER (SFCRC)

Location LEE/1.

IT HAS BEEN SHUT DOWN. There will be no exportation and prices are already starting to rise.

I just saw an incoming shipment that was housed in a make shift plywood walk in room. There were over 60 Corucia housed in there with dried Palmetto fronds stuck on the sides. I was Corralled (Circular impression of both jaws from a corucia Horseshoed- U shaped mark from one Corucia jaw.) on both arms from upset individuals. Most of these are gone already. I was only able to rescue 2 (I am Broke).

It is advisable to acquire any Corucia now to pair up with your single individuals as there may be no more in the future.

Sincerely,
Brian

Hi Brian,

what do you mean it's been shut down? How has the importation been stopped completely, so suddenly?

Where did you see these poor captive corucia?

Tell us more pleeeeeease!

Kim,

As you know, there was complete lawlessness in the Solomon's recently. Aussie troops were sent in to restore order. By action of the new Solomon government in cooperation with CITES has stopped all exportation due to the incredibly high #s going out legally and illegally.

I was down near Miami at a Reptile Warehouse that had the large shipment. They also had many, many different skinks: Yellow plated, Fire, Berbers, Sandfish, etc. They had Skinks and Skunks. I have the ADSA and others trying to help the 7 skunks out of the Metal cattle trough they are in.

Do you have any more info Brian?

I had heard that the export of dolphins had been stopped earlier this summer, but had not heard about any other illegal exports that were being called into question.

I'd like to read some more about this if you could point me to more info. There's nothing on the CITES or TRAFFIC sites.

Thanks.
