get a camera with a micro setting. Olympus has a good macro with 2 stage that allows for closeups and super macro for pics for a mite on an eyeball or something.LOL!

One more thing..

You can get brand NEW discontinued or clearance models for under $100.00 on ebay and places.

Just look at the most recent Olympus or Sony model numbers. Usually the earlier model is just one number lower and they are just as good. After all they were in vogue like 6 months ago.

Another thing is check the macro setting in stores before you buy one online.

Alsoit seems all the new macro settings wash out Yellows and reds these (I know i have tried all the new brands and returned as well as the DSL camers) . The older model cameras had much better macro (like the early Olympus D-510 series)which you can pick up for about $40.00 but they don't get as close (only 4" as the newer macros.

but if you want it simple get a Sony or olympus discontinued model . you should be able to find one around $100. new and $50 used on ebay. that macros are all the same unless you get an acient camera like i suggested about.

Thanks again Rainer for the great advice. Lots of snakes I need to take pictures of and need a camera that can do it.
