Question on Translucent genetic!

Dragon83 Feb 19, 2010 09:52 AM

Hey guys,

I`m not so experienced in breeding but I have one question on the translucent beardies. Can I breed hypotrans x hypotrans or trans x trans? Or is that not good?
Has anyone experience in breeding hypotrans to a hypotrans?

Thanks, Kevin

I wouldn't do it. Breed Trans and H/T to double hets.

Ok. But what does happen if you do that?
Has somebody experience or made such a breeding?

Thanks, Kevin

I`ve heard that you should`nt do that but I want to know the reason or what happened if you do it.
Maybe Steven from Bloodbank knows something I think. I`ve seen he bred a lots of trans.

Thanks, Kevin

Where are the breeder specialists?

Thanks, Kevin

I haven't bred them [ I own one] but what I understand is that the trans dragons have not been around for that long and were a weak "mutation" when first produced, with many dying or being weak animals. So they are not that far from their "weak" start on the beardie scene and thus should not be bred together because you run the risk of producing weak animals.

They are obviously a mistake in the chromosomes of the Breed.... But so would be an ALBINO BEARDED DRAGON that has never been produced. Just like snakes, "visuals" are always a guarantee as opposed to HETS....

**** I would guestimate that if you breed 2 translucents that somewhere in the gene pool will be an "inbreeding" sense, thus resulting in a less of a hatch rate, or some dying young.

I sold our Original Breeding Pair of Translucents because they were "normal" translucents, and brownish in color.... It was when Josh from Phantom just started producing them with D&H Dragons. The only good thing that came out of it are the two holdbacks we decided to keep because one was really Dark/Green/Red and the other a Citrus Yellow/ GREEN.

As long as you are not breeding HET's and you ARE breeding "visual" translucents (bearded dragons that have clear scales and Solid Black eyes) than you should have a Great Hatch Rate of Translucents.... The ones that do not display "black eyes" will be 100% Hets.

*** If you breed the Hypo Trans to a Trans. then you will get half or so "Solid Black Eyes with Clear nails" and the others will be "Solid Black eyes that are HET for Hypo". Just lamens terms for ya.

I do agree with the gentleman that said he WOULDNT breed the two, b/c the Hypo Trans gene is a much more Valuable and more Rare of a trait than just Translucent (black eyes). Translucents are becoming a dime-a-dozen lately now that so many people are producing them. Hypo Translucents are still a larger demand, and they sometimes display a lighter more pastelish tone.

I know what I will get from such a breeding.
I wanted to know if breeding hypotrans to hypotrans or trans x trans is dangerous? Or if the babys out of such a breed are healthy.

Thanks, Kevin
