Mating!!! Calico x T positive albino

They have been in this position for more than an hour, so I am sure that they are locked up somewhere in there. I mostly try to disturb mating snakes as little as possible.

Thanks Matt!

I can understand that - I like the normals just as much as the morphs.

Todd, I started warming them a bit early, because they were brumating in the same tub - and both wanted to be in the water bowl at the same time, most of the time, and it was becoming a real chore to keep their tub clean and dry. So, they did not go as long as I had wanted, but I don't think a couple weeks will make much of a difference to this species. And, the male was ready to mate this year, which is awesome because he did not seem to know what to do last year - young guy is growing up! LOL

BTW, I started a new breeding routine last year: after warming up and two small meals, I start putting pairs together, regardless of date and whether they have had post-brumation shed, etc.

Very cool Toby!......congrats!

I had a pair of "high-yellow" brooksi mate for 5 hours straight the first time, then a couple days later for 5 1/2 hours last year!.....that was really surprising to see. He must have had a little stash of "Viagra" in his hide box!

Thanks, Doug!

I think the beauty snake pair ended up mating for about 2 - 3 hours.

Wanna talk about stamina? These little guys commonly stay locked up for more than 24 hours!

"These little guys commonly stay locked up for more than 24 hours!"

HOLY SMOKES!!

Most of my colubrid stuff has always usually been in the half- hour to 45 minute hour range or so, but 24 hrs. is just insane!

It's good they aren't humans, or they'd be in intensive care!

LOL! Yeah, both E. dione and E. bimaculata have these marathon lock-ups. I was a bit shocked when I saw this for the first time too, and then found out it is pretty common with them. Most of the New World snakes I have kept were doing good to mate for 30 minutes.

That's very interesting to know Toby!,....thanks for that interesting little tid-bit. I would have NEVER guessed that was the case in a million years. I can only imagine your surprise when you witnessed this for the first time. You probably initially thought it was several multiple lock-ups over night and when you weren't right there, huh?..LOL!

Thanks, Doug.

I don't remember for sure, but I think that I figured out that it was one long lock-up pretty quickly - because they stay in the same spot mostly, when they are mating. I know that I was shocked, the first time though, as I usually separate pairs the next morning, after seeing copulation. I probably said something like, "Holy $#%@, they're still locked up!" LOL I thought there was something wrong with them, until I talked to others more experienced with dione.

Thanks, Randy! Me too!

She is a big, beefy girl - so I think chances are good.
