Question of my Hognose Breeding Proj.

ciboyx Feb 20, 2010 05:10 AM

i have an adult normal hognose female, she bred 2009 with some eggs, and they did hatched out some babies in June 2009,
after that, this female hognose never get match with normal male hognose anymore, and she never lays eggs until now...

now, i have a question that, if i match her with my adult albino male hognose, what will be going on?

in case she lays eggs in the coming late Spring after matched with albino male, will all the offspring from such clutch be "100% het albino hognose"?? or all the eggs will be from the normal male which matched last year??

is there also the case that the coming clutch will be consisted of normal males and albino males' baby??? (that means the female use both males' sperm for producing the baby)

i hope that one can kindly give me the answer....please,
and thanks a lot...

While it is POSSIBLE for some babies hatched this year to have been fathered by leftover sperm from the previous season, if she is mated to your albino male this spring it would be quite unlikely that any resulting offspring would be from last year's sire. Not impossible, but unlikely.

You could produce animals from retained sperm from last year. I wouldn't consider her clean until I got a clutch of slugs from her, or you can verify the babies genetics by using a dominant genetic male.. I personally wouldn't feel comfortable selling the babies as 100% het albino.

So, according to two brothers' reply, which means that, if my female hognose mates with the albino male successful, and she does lay eggs, the probability of those eggs are from the ablino male will be quite high, but cannot 100% sure!!!

right??

i think i can get the point, thanks a lot for your help...
Cheers.
