Hi all.I was wondering what we will see next in hondos. Will we see something new or just slight variations of the morphs that are already out there?Hondos being as variable as they are will we see striped,motly,1 solid color or something completly different? When you look at corns and see all the different morphs it makes you wonder if hondos are going the same way.

I am have a project in the works. I tried breeding this male this year with no luck. Think what it would look like as an albino, hypo, or anery!

>>Hi all.I was wondering what we will see next in hondos.

Most of the pattern variations so far seem to be the result of multiple gene interaction, so their production is much less predictable than the rest of the recessive morphs. Some of the things we can anticipate:

1. "super hypos"--there are four i know of so far, all tangerines. We'll slowly see more of those, and in a year or so, i suspect, we'll see the first tricolor superhypo.

2. "super ghosts" (anerythristic and super hypo)

3. vanishing pattern ghosts--we still haven't seen more than a handful of really, really exceptional ghosts, imho

4. true "hybinos"--definite homozygous for both albino and hypo. I THINK the first of those might be produced next year, from hypo/albino X hypo/albino.

5. Some "vanishing pattern" tangerine hypos are nearly monocolor on part of their body and i'm sure eventually someone will prdouce one that is, for the most part, orange for the entire length of the body.

6. Steve Michael's "calico" or "piebald" honduran, if genetic, will produce dramatically different hondurans in coming years. Among other changes, that snake has black rings split by white: that won't have much impact on amelanistics, but it will sure produce some interesting new normals (tangerines AND tricolors will be altered significantly), hypos, and anerythristics. At this point, with only a single animal to observe, it's hard to predict which will be the most impressive.

I'm sure there are some others we'll hear about.

>>>>Hi all.I was wondering what we will see next in hondos.

There are white-sided Elaphe and, if i'm not mistaken, Pituophis. And Lampropeltis, too, right? (somebody help me out here--are there white-sided brooksi?) Anyway, a lot of morphs occur in many types of snakes so it's reasonable to wonder, at least, if they might not occur in other species.

So I'll go out on a limb, and predict that sooner or later, without hybridizing, we'll see white-sided examples of pure L. triangulum, perhaps other milksnakes, mtn kings, etc. Has anybody ever heard of an example of any of these?
