At the Brox Zoo today I saw..........

kcaiman Sep 20, 2003 05:26 PM

there were two tanks... in the first tank there were A LOT ( a heck of a lot) of Blue Azureus adults(extremely fat and fastest of them all) with one yellow teribllis along with a bunch of lueks all in the same tank! Granted it was a large tank but what about fighting over territory and crossbreading? (i didnt see and fighting going on at the time) Also something that puzzled me was the sign said that the leuks are really agressive when i always read that they are a 'group' frog?

anyways...

in the second tank there were almost adult but still on the small side green aturatus (spelling?) and also in there were these really straing frogs thast i've only seen once in the photo gallery... they were really big and not the typical PDF shape; they were all yellow and had like a black cross on there backs but i can't remeber the name, any of you guys/gals know it?!

sorry for rambling.....

k

Those yellow frogs with black crosses sound to me like an Atelopus spp. (possibly zeteki). Were their eyes green?

I was at the Bronx Zoo in August...those are Atelopus zeteki.

Just because a zoo mixes frogs, does not mean that it is a preferred husbandry practice. The dart frog display at the Phoenix Zoo is nothing short of appalling, not saying the one at the Bronx is (it is actually very nicely put together), but do not use a zoo as a "guide book".
