is this an armata?

doret Sep 20, 2003 05:42 PM

I bought this beautifull female a few months ago here in Holland from a german breeder.
He told me this is an armata but I,m not sure.
Who can tell me if she's an armata and why?
(I hope the link works )

hopefully the picture I attached will work. The picture is of my female armata's back when I first got her. you can see the patterning and horn placement well in this picture. if it doesn't work just go to www.pbase.com/joe_mhd and you will see the A. armata page and the A. capra page and will be able to see the differences. I believe it is a capra for a couple of reasons. 1) I don't see horns coming from the occiput (area between crest on the neck and their ears) 2) the patterning and coloration on it doesn't resemble an armata at all, it looks very much like a capra.

don't be disappointed though...capra's are great! I have 6 of them and one is nearly due to lay eggs! Let us know if you have anymore questions!

Thank you, now I,m sure she is A. capra instead of what the guy was telling me. I was not sure, because, when I looked at different site's, I still didn't know where the "occiput" was located (maybe mine didn't have an occiput )
And no, I,m not dissapointed. Finally I can find a man for her and I will not buy the wrong one.
For sure I will have some more questions : when does the spines start to grow above her eyes? About two weeks ago she was 27cm so still young?
Thanx again.

I agree,

looks like one of these "capra" which have been sold under this name two years ago.
With respect to the missing secomnd pair of horns they in fact resemble capra. But I suspect them to be yet another species.
But not armata.
