One of my favorite Hogs

Rick209 Feb 24, 2010 07:35 PM

My little male Red x Yellow I got from John Q at the Anaheim show. The pic doesnt show the reds or yellows as they really are but this is easily one of my favorite hogs that I own.

Hey Rick, he's looking good.
I can tell he has good color that you are not getting
in your pictures. One look at the tail and his neck
and I know he is developing a good amount of red. He's gonna look great as an adult.
Also, the side pattern, it's not as solid as my nicest male but you can see it is there. He could be a great project snake.
Will you have him up to size later this year or will it be 2011 before he is ready to breed?

John,
Your snakes look more and more like Dusty hogs. They actually look like my Evans line dustys that he got from Bryan Box.
The 2 nicer colors mine produce are the reds and the golden colors.

Nice snakes

I never purchased any snakes from Richard but went to his web page photo gallery many times. He had an incredible collection. That was years ago when visual morphs were limited to albinos, reds, and maybe some banded stock. I don't believe anybody has been able to really lock in the banded pattern and reproduce it consistently.
As far as looking more like dustys and the colors they produce, yes, my line is similar and my results are probably very similar to yours. When I breed my reds, Red x Red, I get two distinct types of Reds. I get red blotches on a red background and red blotches on a yellowish background. Probably what you are describing as golden. I refer to them as high contrast reds because of the yellow/golden colored background.
To have any of my hognose compared to stock of a breeder like Richard is complement. Thank you.
