Something for fun...

Once again, and as always...I'm contemplating an investment. Just out of curiousity I thought it would be nice to see what some of my fellow Ball Python fanciers would consider. In short, I'd like to know which animal(s) you'd buy and what future projects you'd use them in (IE: Orange Ghost x Pastel, Mojave x Pastel, etc...) Would you want a quicker return working w/ dominant or co-dominant males or mixing some stuff up for some awesome dbl. het future breedings??

Let's say you have 18,500 CASH to spend, and to clarify that for all the "morph-haters" out there in forum land, that means $18,500 for animals only...lol...no SUV's or Corvette's, just good ole' BP's!! And oh yeah, give me an idea of the kind of deal you'd expect as well (IE: you spend it ALL with one or two breeders, what % off you'd hope for)

Obviously we're blessed with a TON of options, but I'm looking for input. Bottom line is we all have somewhat different taste, so in the end, I'm sure a Clown "freak" will go for the obvious, as will the Pied lover, but I'm curious as to the overall percentage of the general public's "number one animal or animal combo" just for kicks.

Thanks everyone!!

I Spent 4 years in the Marine Corps......

Ok...If I had that sum to invest into balls Id probably go with whats more in demand...the co-doms and Dominant genes are definaetly hot right now....and they will always be such.....but Its the recessive traits that are the fun ones.......there is just something about breeding a morph and making hets and then breeding the hets back to the original animal to then see the babies that you so patiently( well not so patiently....more like agonized over until they hatch )awaited. Now....with the possibility of combo morphs also you kinda need both dominant & recessive genes or just recessives.....

Some wise projects to get into as far as recessive trait morphs I would say would be: Caramel Albinos, Genetic Stripes, Albinos(always will be a good seller and useful in combo's), Hypos.......things that you dont see alot of for sale.

Good co-doms and dominant morphs to get into are: Spiders, Mojaves, Cinnamon Pastels, Co-Dom Labyrinths( Het Black Balls )
HEt Red Axanthics..

Thos are some projects that are attainable with the sum you mentinoed....and are SOLID projects on their own aswell as combos.....

Just my opinion.

Call Mr Jack Briggs up @ Designer Snakes and get yourself a SPIDER, I know thats what I did and I must say Jack and the guys at Designer Snakes are some great people to do business with.

I would likely go out and buy a Spider. They seem to be holding their value very well. I'd also buy a pastel male with it and produce some female PJ's to breed to the spider.

Mohave's are also spectacular. I just got one and pictures don't do them justice.

Then there are the pieds. How can you not look a Designer's Snakes clutch and not drool? They are spectacular!

I also think that a lot of the recessives are going to be harder to find in the future due to the fact that a lot of people are jumping on the dom/co-dom bandwagon and everyone with recessive are double heting everything. So pure single hets are going to become scarce.

Hell...I'd still go with a Spider!

MJ

ps. Does your girl friend know that you think she is phsyco? Just curious.

Personally, I would would invest in a small collection like, het for pied, albinos, clowns, pastels etc. Then wait to produce some babies that could finance a spider. Even with proper husbandry snakes can die on you or be infertile. This way your not putting all your eggs in one basket so to speak.

Everybody seems to like spiders. I don't think they will hold their value as well as the simple recesive traits, but they do look good. Many people are buying them and producing them on the first breeding. I would buy a lesser platinum male, and a pair of het pieds. A lesser platty pied would be amazing! Also, it would be fun to create an animal het for several traits, that way you could breed a pair together and have a great assortment of morphs. Imagine having a clutch hatch with a pied, an albino, a clown, and ghost!
