A little off topic...

Hello, all!

It's been a while since I've posted anything, but I hope everything is going well. I was going to post this in the ball python forum, but I opted to post it here since I know this crowd a bit better.

Do any of you have blind snakes, and if so, what differences do you notice in feeding behavior and general activity in relation to "normal" sighted snakes?

I'm still waiting on more detailed information regarding this snake, but I have been told that it is healthy. It was described as requiring "a little help" during feeding times though I'm not sure how accurate that description is.

I plan on at least getting a physical on the animal to ensure that it is healthy, but I also wanted to get some feedback from this forum.

This snake is for a friend of mine and will not be added to my personal collection.

In other news, my California kingsnake is officially 8 years old and doing well. She had her first meal of the season and, while she is a bit sluggish, appears healthy, bright and alert.

I have a blind "Creamsicle" Corn Snake. It acts pretty much like a normal snake.
When feeding it, does help to tap it on the nose when feeding it, but it's been sightless for a few years now and seems to be otherwise healthy.

Here's the snake:

Do you mean actual blind snakes--as in the group of snakes that share that name--or a snake that has been blinded?

I doubt very much that he means one of these (found in the Las Vegas area last year):

You never know
if it's a blinded snake they usually do fine although maybe some of them ore visually oriented species might struggle. I've seen blind boas and blind kings do fine...and the BBC's Life in Cold Blood documented a population of taipains where a good portion were blinded yet still caught prey (they fed on birds...many of them lost eyes to the birds).

I've never owned a (physically) blind snake, so I can't provide this potential owner with a lot of experience in that area. I wouldn't think owning a blind snake would be very different from owning a sighted snake, but it helps to hear from people with first-hand experience.

Thanks for all of the replies so far!

as an aside, if they ate things I could actually provide, I'd love to keep those in all the flowerpots and stuff around my house. Just cause.

Blind as in "can't see at all"
