plastic welding with HDPE

Anyone here have experience with this? I'm once again considering working with this material to construct cages and perhaps a rack or two.

I'm interested in making cages that will be 4 and 6 feet long. I intend to also make a large custom shelf to hold them, this way the cages won't have to be super strong and I'll still have the space saving option of stacking.

I've seen some fairly inexpensive plastic welding kits, and HDPE sheets aren't too expensive. I presume 1/2" thick would be needed for cages of the length I'm describing. Rods are cheap too, although I have no experience with this at all. Could anyone point me in the right direction for further research?

I know there are some that have worked with these materials before, but I don't recall who it was.
