All the way at the end this references that animals other than cats and dogs having to comply as well, as applicable. Among other provisions it requires 24 hour staffing at facilities with 50 animals

Here is another taxation/regulation one for the cash strapped county of L.A. Squash the small business and heavily regulate those that survive. AR groups are certainly employing a multi-prong approach here. How could we counter this agenda?

> How could we counter this agenda?

The only way to counter all of this is to be everywhere at once
and the only way to do that is to use force multipliers to spread the message and train groups of locals how to respond to these initiatives. Marshall Meyers, Andrew Wyatt, and Adam Wysocki can't be everywhere at once no matter how much we need/want that to happen, and frankly in most cases the locals are better equipped to deal with the state and local issues.

USARK, NatPet, PIJAC, none of these organizations is equipped funded or built to address so many issues at once at the federal state and local levels, and the answer is not sending in out of staters to resolve local issues when the flames flare up. The answer is to start the work now before there are even warm embers
IF you have the opportunity.

In a perfect world, there would be an organization at the top (PIJAC or USARK) dealing directly with International/National herp issues that has a grassroots infrastructure that assists local herp clubs and organizations fight the local and state issues on their own. Right now I don't know that we have exactly that. PIJAC is probably closer to the ideal, though more through accident than through any intentional design, but their traditional methodology precludes them from moving quickly or working outside their paid membership base, and their industry focus makes it problematic to work directly with pet owners.

USARK is probably the best positioned to take this role but they have chosen a different path, instead of working to get the local orgs activated they have taken the initiative themselves in some way.

We need to engage assets we already have, better, and the way we do that is tools, training, methodology, and communication. If we work to those ends we (the reptile community) will be more successful.

Thanks! That was the best post I have seen yet. I am certain that state associations would be effective and timely in addressing bills like the two here in Cali and would free up PIJAC and USARK to act nationally and on critical bills such as the one in Florida. Could you elaborate on tools, training and methodology for me. Any ideas on getting the ball rolling would be appreciated. People to network with? Our rights are on the line and I don't want to give mine away.

The first tool that is important is right here - the Herp Law Forum on kingsnake.com - we have data, connections, names, contacts, laws, and regs going all the way back to 1997 in the archives and as current as today - on top of that this forum has live status updates, links to agencies and organizations and more. I am turning this forum into the most important tool for anyone dealing with herp law issues as fast as we can add the back & front end technology, but in the last 10 years it has been the place where most herp law issues have broken to the mainstream reptile community so it's already a valuable asset.

I will be adding more to this thread and expanding upon the other issues this weekend.

We need to step up and jump in on this one. We should start pooling California talent and put together a force to be reckoned with. California is a big herp state and thus a big target for HateSUS to hit. If they cripple all the big herp states then we are finished. I think grass roots is the best and most economical way to save our past time and maybe cause the extremists to think twice about taking us on. Lets get some ideas and form a strategy for success. If we lose an inch, it should cost them millions in litigation ( I think ).

with this law forum. I have been sending everyone here to keep up with all of the latest attacks on our freedoms. Thanks for providing a one - stop place to contend with the overwhelming barrage coming from the humaniac groups.

It says a license is not required to keep the following for personal use: Kingsnakes, Gophersnakes, Turtles.

So does that mean you would need a license to keep a Rosy Boa, Alligator Lizard, etc.?

I ask -- What about all the tropical fish stores? They more often than not stack their aquariums. Even the big players like PetsMart, Petco and WalMart do, or do they get the corporate free pass?

Video of the March 3rd California Fish and Game Commission meeting in Ontario did reveal a connection -- a Ms. Madeline Bernstein representing the SPCALA did unequivocally state that she and her organization have been trying to end commerce and ownership of turtles [in Los Angeles and California] since 1994.
