My loves (P.d.jani)

ALT Feb 25, 2010 10:06 PM

Looooong time lurker, first time poster. I've been keeping P.d.jani for over a decade now and I'm completely smitten with them.

This is my big guy. He's a 1998 hatchling and over 7' long these days. The nose rub happened some time during 2001, in a pet-sitter's care.

He's the calmest, most trusting snake I've ever been around and a star education animal. I mean come on, who doesn't love a gigantic bright yellow snake? He actually allows me to stick my finger in his mouth and pull his lower jaw down to show off that trademark Pituophis keeled glottis.

This is my female, a 2005 hatchling, bred for the first time last spring. She's every bit as big as her mate, but a lot less laid back, and a terror when food is involved!

Here's my other male, a 2004. This guy isn't quite as big as the other two, but he has some insane color. His head just glows!

Wrapping things up with my first ever hatchling, from the yellow pair. Hope you guys like them

...and I did an excellent job with the image posting. Grumble.

I hope my male gets that big. He's an 08, and is about 4 feet. Very nice animals by the way.

Thanks for the comments everyone! Maybe I should mention that I'm about 5'1" tall. When I hold that big guy up as high as I can, his tail is still on the floor

ALT's already seen this, but for the rest of you I thought I'd share a recent pic of one of ALT's '09 hatchling (from that first clutch mentioned above):

This photo was from a few weeks ago. It's had it's third shed since then, weighs in just over 40g, starting to show a bit more yellow background on the body than shown in the pic, and starting to show more orange up front.

So far, it's (she's?) showing all of dad's fantastic personality traits, eating well, and has made a total convert out of my previously snake-phobic wife

Lets try that again...
