well im back...

had a house fire...

all is well, did loose a few snakes... but almost lost everything, coulda been real bad. bad wire/breaker started in attic. most of the ceiling above snakeroom came down smoky nasty water and charcoal insulation all over racks in boxes, oh yeah funfunfun.
counting my blessings.
many of the adults were still brumating and got a rude cold wet awakening but for the most part seem ok, i wasnt home when it happened, fortunately my sister was and called FD and they came w/hoses so that evening i came home to a soggy wet nasty snakeroom in 40degree weather with no power bit of a scramble to say the least.

Wow dued, you just lived through one of my worst nightmares. i often think what i would do if there was a house fire. my snakes can't be insured and the same thing with the contents ( i have a lot of expensive collectbles besides snakes) of my house. With property values being what they are the insurance company would get just enough to pay off th mortage and i would be left completely homeless with nothing but my car and the clothes on my back.

GEEEZ!,....that is truly one of the scariest things that could ever happen to someone. Even though that was a very unfortunate thing, it's just good it wasn't FAR worse.

Hope the little Dachshund is okay too, I love my little Miniature Wire-haired Dachshund buddy more than anyone could possibly imagine!

Hope you can get things back to a half-decent level there soon too man.

~Doug

Aw man, so sorry to hear. At least it seems you and most of your cherished living things are well enough to move onward and (hopefully soon) upward.

Hi Thomas. I am sorry to hear this. If there is anything I can help with, let me know. I am not too far away. I don't think you will need it, but I have empty racks if you need them.

I had to add a photo of my mini. He is crossed between long hair and wire haired. Kind of unique looking in the dachshund world. His hair is thin like the wired hair, but softer than the normal long hair.

on the up side, electrician came yesterday and i added plugs all around the snakeroom so no more extension cords! which will be WAY cool. i apprecieate all the offers of help ive received. w/power back on its all just cleaning now. the fire was caught by faulty wiring, romex stapled to a 2x6 with the staple thru the wire! scary thing is its been like that for probably 25-30 yrs! i have sense checked all the attic wiring w/electrician and all is good.
thanks again for all the thoughts,,,,,,,,,thomas

Glad that worked out for you man. I know how important it is to have extra outlets! I could use a zillion of them and a better breaker bar in my snakes room because it keeps getting tripped from the overload.

I need a cheap electrician to expand that i can pay in snakes
