Gravid, ovlauted or not? experince neede

MoreliasCom Feb 27, 2010 03:19 PM

Hi,

I have this salmon boa that (I) have been breed with a jungle boa male for some time. Since before christmas.

Well, he has been courting here on and off since mid january.

She swelled up(saw now ovaltion, just thicker girth).
He lost interrest, but still lay where she laid.

She went into shed, he was showing zero interest laying on the oposite end of the cage.
So I removed him.
She shed, and then looked like this:

Maybe 20% thicker girth than normaly.

So I put the male back in to see what would happend.

When he got in the cage and she was made aware of his prescence, the female raised here tail and showed some pink flesh to him.....

No copulation the first day.

But now 4 days later this:

She is swelling up insanely, and is atleast 50% above normal girth between the 2 lines.

Can anyone please deschiffer the situation, and tell me what is going on?

First season trying to breed boas in about 6 years, a real headache. lol.

Thank you for any reply!
Bård

Looks like good things to come!

It's normal for females to increase in girth during the courtship process and even return back down to normal size, then swell again, etc... True ovulation is unmistakable though. It's much more vertically oriented than horizontally (which seems to be what you're seeing right now).

That ovulation may be MASSIVE!

Good luck and keep the male in there!!!!

What's written above is purely my opinion. In fact, MOST of what you read on the internet is someone's opinion. Don't take it too seriously

Jonathan,

Thanks for words.
Im used to carpet pythons, and that is way more straigth forward, than boas.
Breed, ovulate, 25 days egg, 55 days incubation= babies.

The male will stay there for the duration of this without a doubt.

I realy hope this is the start of the ovulation.

Whatever it is so far it is as you say MASSIVE.

The last 3 feeds she got was rabbits injected with good doses of pure fish (omega) oils, maybe thats whay did it

Well I still have 3-4 more boas to go, so I hope this is a good start.

Thanks again.

Bård
