petsmart's leos

dagangsta Sep 20, 2003 07:47 PM

hey, i'm getting a job at petsmart, and i was waiting fo my dad to pick me up after an interview, and i wasllooking at the leos and i noticed many things
-tails were extremly skinny
-crickets weren't dusted
-alot of the leos were trying to catch the crickets for like the whole time i was waiting there which was about a half hour to an hour

i was wondering would it be a reasonable request for them to start treating these problems? or should i just not really care, i mean well, yea, lol, would it make sense for them to be seperating the gecko's for feeding, or should i just ask them to start dusting the crickets??

-i hope that made sense, i'm not feeling to well, so me thinking is kinda screwed up

Tell them EVERYTHING!!!! They're not doing it right! You're a employee now, and you have right to tell everything what they're doing wrong. I just can't imagine sick leos being sold off by random customers, so before anyone gets interested in buying them, act quick, before it's too late! Sooner or later, a news could spread around, saying that the leos aren't being treated properly, and no one would come and buy them from your petsmart. Talk to the other employees and manager, if possible. If nobody acts, you do it. This could teach them a lesson about caring for leos properly.

Part of the problem with pet stores is that most don't even know when they are doing something wrong. A lot of times all they have ever dealt with is sick and malnurished reptiles so that is what's normal to them. In most situations, they readily accept help from those more knowledgable. Sometimes you can't tell by the condition of their animals, but the people who work in the stores do want what's best for the critters. They just aren't trained to know what "best" is.

It will probably also impress your boss. Pull a leopard gecko book off the store shelf and point out the pages that detail what needs to be changed for the geckos in your store. Offer to make the changes yourself. Also, one thing I've noticed is that a lot of stores keep their gecko temps too high so check that if you get the chance.

GOOD LUCK!!!
