Northern Ringneck question for you guys...

repzoo44 Sep 20, 2003 08:09 PM

I found a Northern Ringneck today in an attic. I thought this was kind of strange but im not sure. Has anyone else ever heard of a Ringneck being found in a similiar place. Thanks for your help. I know this isnt the right forum but some knowledgable people hang out in here so I figured what the hell. EP

We occasionally find them inside walls in S. Florida (of course I am refering to southern ringnecks). Since part of their diet includes ant eggs and termites, it's not surprising.

...I once lived in an apartment house (ground floor) where all pets were banned(I had about 50 snakes in there). My upstairs and side neighbors both came to my door with baby ringnecks that had crawled out of their walls and asked me if they were mine (I should add they were cool about what I had). My best guess was a female laid eggs in the wall and these were the result. By the way...I moved a year later and the landlord never knew...Frank

Hey, I'm in Miami, what part of S Florida are you in?

Anyway, I know this is old, but I actually found a recently dead Southern Ringneck in my bedroom about a week or two ago. It was hiding under an aquarium tube that had been stepped on

The thing is, though, that my bedroom is really far from any doors that open outside, and I don't really open my window. Either this one guy was a real trecker (at which I feel really bad it got crushed) or it came in through a vent. Sorry, but I have no holes in any walls where it would come through there.

It's not all that unusual to find them indoors, especially right after a significant change in the weather (warm to cold, dry to wet). In fact, drastic weather changes can lead to an assortment of critters making appearances in unusual places, including inside one's abode.

But as for getting into the attic, I never considered ringnecks to be avid climbers. It would be interesting to know how he found his way up there!

Pure talent! I have often found them under dead bark on trees along with scarlett kings and skinks. Frank
