Iguana den also has really good diet information. I basically use their diet, but with dandelion as my main staple.

My 4 year old male is a Mr and Mrs. blue hatchling from Blair. He's very red underneath: arms, dewlap esp belly. Blue head, blue spikes down the back, blueish hue all around shoulders/neck, but I can't really get it in pics. Anyway, he's a blast. Always been free roaming, except 2 or 3 months in the beginning. He was a spazjob for the first 18-20 months, but food brought us together and, fastforward to today, he climbs up in my lap for scratches, and somewhat regularly puts up very calmly with two 3 year olds, two year olds, a 4th grader, 6th grader and high schooler (all my nephews and and or/own kids...) all clamoring to touch or hold him. The only advice for taming is 1.don't force him, 2. don't give up. If you force him you may make him wary of you for years, and miss out on the way things could have been if you gave it time and just let it develop.

Have fun, it's worth it.

Beautiful lizard, but he looks like a Cuban?

Bayzow Mar 03, 2010 01:06 PM

I know right? But I have that cert that Blair sends out, and if he is cuban, he sure has a lot of unexplained blue; though not as much as I would like- just more than any cuban would have. He is from the same parents as Joel's (Duke), and in person they do look very similar.
Hoping for more powder blue in the future. As for the head, hopefully it "stretches" out a little as he gets older.

Actually it looks like a Cuban crossed with a caymanensis but not a lewisi cross. The caymanensis sometimes have quite a lot of blue on the head....On my website are some PURE caymanensis on the Cyclura pages that have a very blue head.....thanks

The caymanensis can have a lot of blue on their heads, and can have none. I have a whole load of pics of as many different caymanensis iguanas as my friend could take, and in both males and females, some have blue, some have more yellow but it definately is not consistent. This is a wild male that was photo'd on little cayman.

I just found this forum this afternoon. I think I posted here years ago, but there was almost no one on here back then.

It's my understanding that Blair's crosses are C.nubila X nubila caymanesis X C. lewisi, so they have a Cuban look about them, especially in photographs. My Kismet is from a 2002 hatching, but I don't know her parentage since I got her "second-hand". I got all of the paperwork that she came with when I got her, but that and her egg shell were all lost in Hurricane Katrina when we lived in New Orleans. We took Kismet but not her paperwork. Fortunately, I always keep a copy of it in my purse so I still have her hatch date and clutch number. I also was able to get a copy of the adoption certificate from the reptile society I got her from re-issued after the storm. But I digress.

Anyway, in person from people from the IRCF I've been told Kismet shows a lot of caymanesis coloring. She doesn't have a lot of blue, just a little on her head and some patches here and there, but I find she gets a little bit more blue each year. But she is an absolute angel. I find her incredibly intelligent, docile, and loving and I wouldn't trade her for a lizard the color of the sky.

Blair has offered at least two different crossed to my knowledge. He has a lewisi x caymanensis and a lewisi x nubila. Head shape is the usual giveaway. I am certain I have the cayamensis hybrid from Blair. Because they are hybrids every animal is different and there are the normal differences between the sexes, like shape and color.

On Kismet's original paperwork it said that she was a three-way cross. I would love to find someone who has one of her clutch-mates because I'd love to have more information. I wish I still had all of the original paperwork (stupid hurricane!) David wouldn't give me a lot of information since I wasn't her original owner.

Maybe I'll make a post about it.

You won't regret it! I have a 7 year old lewisi hybrid and I absolutely adore her.

I have heard that the 2-3 of years with a baby cyclura are rough. We adopted Kismet when she was 18 months old, though and she settled in within just a couple of months. What specifically do you want to know?

revolutionmellon Mar 05, 2010 03:37 PM

I think the #1 thing that I didnt relize about Cyclura are that as juvinilles they are scared of everything and it takes them longer than greens to become mushballs. Just keep that in mind

Are you selling him?? Saw a hybrid for sale on classifieds by someone named joe.6 months old from blair.
