Update on Sunglow with swollen Hemipenis

Slacker6848 Mar 02, 2010 01:14 PM

My sunglow boa that was on baytril for 2 weeks for a swollen hemipenis, well that didn’t do anything so my vet wanted to get in there and do a biopsy. Well since I'm at work he called me cell and left me a message and he said he had some good news, he made a 1" incision on the tail to get to it and it was an infection, nothing was damage and no tumors or anything like that. He cleaned out all the infected tissue and dissected it and prescribed 2 more weeks of a different antibiotic since he knows exactly what type of infection it was. He didn’t leave what type of infection or which antibiotics he's prescribing now but he said it's given every 72 hours instead of ever 48 hours like the baytril. He also said that he should have no long term effects and will still be able to breed, of course next year.

Here's a few pics of the trouper

I guess he was doing this a little TOO much, LOL

Thanks
Zack

Tell that male boa of yours to "wrap it up" next time to avoid that nasty infection! lol

Glad to hear everything is going to turn out well!

What's written above is purely my opinion. In fact, MOST of what you read on the internet is someone's opinion. Don't take it too seriously

It turned out it wasn’t his hemipenes, it was an abscess with lots of infected tissue and it wasn't connected to the hemipenes, it way right after. so hopefully after this he makes a great and speedy recovery.
