Try fresh-killed prey at first. If it takes the freshly killed prey its a very good step forward.
F/T might be too strange at first to a snake that has been feeding live for 5 years so it might only take live. It all depends on the snake.

Also, did you just get this snake? If so, give it some time to chill out for a couple of weeks before trying to feed it. If your setup is good, it will feed on something eventually.

BTW: feeding live isnt a bad thing (its natural and its what your snake knows). Just keep an eye out for problems with live prey and you should be good.

Good luck!

if he has not eaten since having mouth rot, now is not the time to try a regiment change. any snake that begins eating again after mouth rot is cause for celebration, so i'd get him over that hurdle first.

if your past that and have a good number of solid meals in this snake, then by all means try the switchover - but if not, offer live, till he's 6 months or so past his mouth rot.

switching from live to thawed is very hard with an adult snake, especially males that don't need as much calories. they can wait you out over a year. thats not what you want to be doing with a recently ill snake.

I;m sorry I did not go enough into the story. The snake had mouth rot like 4 years ago when the previous owners found him in a alley. The reason for saying this is because now his tounge is all deforemed. So I didnt know if his smell might be? I just got him and was feeding the rest of the reptiles and decided to try one. He didnt take it so I am letting it sit in his hide for a bit. By all means this is not my first reptile or snake. Its just never had one refuse f/t, usually a little shake and they grab on lol. Just looking for any pointers from people. If he refuses I have no problem feeding live just easier to feed frozen.
