very cool. It is going to be great! It looks very similar to mine but yours is better. You are going to wire it, right? Are your windows going to open? If so, consider this, it works great. Its 1" pvc coated wire window box. They can get completly outside. And you can still close the window when cold. Because of that its a great holding pen while I clean on a summer day. I can give you more info if desired

I have attached a drawing of what I am hoping the end result will be. I plan on having a larged attached chainlink pen for summer days. As far as the windows opening, the two 5x6 windows open as well as two of the 3x6 also. The 5x6 windows are both on the long side and the 3x6 are split with on on each end. That 1" pvc coated wire would work great as windows screens.

That is going to be a nice enclosure. I really dig the outdoor pen. Make sure the outdoor pen is covered or at least have the upper 12 inches of the fence fixed with sheet metal on both sides to keep igs, cats and raccoons from climbing up and over.

It will definately be covered. Planning on having the top of the pen being the same chainlink. The only thing choice for me as the Bald Eagle's around my property have taken every cat i can think of. Since I live so close to saltwater AND a state salmon hatchery those birds are everywhere it seems. I am sure I will have questons for recommendatins as I get into the interior finishing. Tommorrow I hope to get the rafters hung and secured and by weekend's end have the roof complete and maybe the sheating up. We will see how motivated I am?

Wow, bald eagles! And I got nervous when I saw a redtail hawk sitting on a branch when I let some cycluras out to roam the yard.

Glass windows are nice, but Rhino iguanas can run through them to get at rivals free roaming in the yard. Replaced the window with thick plexiglass and it never happened again. A friend of a friend did loose a cyclura to a hawk. In the below enclosure used regular PVC chain link for the sides and thinner gauge PVC coated rabbit fencing for the top and bottom. Tied it all together with insulated electrical wire. If you are considering cat doors, consider one on each wall leading out the to fenced area. That is going to be a nice set up !

Roof is on and sheathed. This weekend comes shingles and wall sheating. I was worried there wasn't going to be enough light without skylights, I was wrong. There is plenty. I can't imagine a animal running through glass windows. Were they single pane? I splurged and bought all new milgard windows for the enclosure. Also, the windows sit 20" off the ground, Hope they don't try to run through them. I am going to plywood and paint the interior walls instead of sheetrock. Figure it is a better insulator and stronger to scratches and such. Yea, bald eagles. I am not sure they would pluck one up, but if there hungry I am sure they might try. Question, tile or just concrete for the floor. I really would like to use some sort of substrate, such as Decomposed granite. Mark where do you get it from. Any ideas where to look in Washington State? Here are updated pics

If were some high school kid with a limited vocab, I would say your cage is shaping up hella sick-ass. Since I am not, I have to say something like Hey that looks like it will be an outstanding enclosure.

cycluracornuta Mar 06, 2010 02:54 PM

The window was home depo cheap single pane. The iguana charged off a higher shelf down at a rival male free roaming in the yard. I doubt you will have the same happen, but just be aware it has.

I USED TO HAVE [20 YEARS PLUS AGO] AN ENORMOUS MALE RHINO THAT I LET ROAM FREE IN THE YARD DURING THE DAY AND PUT HIM UP AT NIGHT. IF A STRAY DOG OR CAT DARED TO COME INTO THE YARD HE WOULD IMMEDIATELY ATTACK IT AND CHASE IT TO HIS BORDER. I'D LIKE TO SEE ANY RAPTOR TRY TO TAKE HIM. HE LIKED PEOPLE BUT HE WAS 4' PLUS AND OVER 30 LBS AND AFRAID OF NOTHING...

Use to let the rhinos free roam for the day frequently. One male would chase and attack dark objects,Like the black labrador retriever. Funny thing was he just ignored the golden retriever.

I would have been afraid to let mine roam free since I lived in the country but one day went home to check the Lizards early and my Rhino was basking in the driveway. My kids used to play with him often and I went in to let them have it for leaving his door open and they explained that MONTHS before they had been opening his cage in the morning because they felt sorry for him in his small cage [12' x 15' x 6']. For months he had been free roaming all day and he would go back into his enclosure and my kids would then lock him in for the night so I wouldn't find out. My kids taught me that you can free roam some individual Cyclura...LOL..THIS WAS MANY YEARS AGO...

My yard was chain link fenced. Although the rhinos could climb over it, most of them choose not to. Once in awhile one would, and they always eventually came home. This only became a problem when one escaped just before a move out of state. I had to offer a stake out reward while the home was in escrow.

Is that a boxer that I'm seeing in the last photo? Great choices! Cyclura and boxers!
