What morph is this?

twillis10 Mar 02, 2010 10:34 PM

I got this girl last christmas and she was sold to me as a normal. It has always been apparent to me that this is not the normal color. I kinda always assumed it was a red but it seems like it might be to light for a red. I dont really know a whole lot about hog morphs so I figured you guys would be the best to ask. sorry for the bad pictures, my camera batteries were dead so I took them on my mac book.

That one it steller I hope you can get some babies out of it.

I just put her in with the male a few days ago! Fingers Crossed. Would the offspring help show what she is? I know a red breed to a normal will produce some reds right? what about a hypo? Is it recessive or codom?

Hypo is usually a recessive gene, so the offspring wouldn't show the pattern. Hold back all the babies and breed them to each other and the mother to try and prove whatever you have out. Unfortunately, new morphs occasionally turn out to be embryo development annomonlies. The temps might have been too hot, fluctuated too much when the egg was developing and the pattern is affected. I hope that's not the case with this guy though!

We would have a better idea with some more pics. Cool snake!!

Ill try to take some tonight or in the morning.

She is really cool. Where did you get her?

She's looks like she could be a form of hypo. What does her belly look like? Most hypo forms have shown to be simple recessive but there have been a codom hypo pop up in boas.

Please don't talk about snake prices when my wife is around!!

She looks exactly like the hypos ive seen, only she still has the normal black belly with some orange spots. A hypo would have no black right? I got her at a pet store just south of Atlanta called randars reptiles. Ill try to get those shots tonight.

the color looks hypoish to me
and the pattern like a Spider in some degree
but
no matter what it is, it´s cool...Congratulation to this addition!!!

Let me first say that she looks like some of the het/poss het hypo/ t positive albino stuff I have seen recently. With that pet shop in Georgia and the producers of that line of Hypo/ t positive albino just up the road a few states in NC, I could see that you may have ended up with a poss het hypo that was sold as a normal. Like someone said earlier, keep it and breed it to an offspring to try and prove it out. Even if the genes do not show up for hypomelanism and if this snake happens to be from that line, they still throw odd-looking patterns that you should be happy with.

Keep us posted & we are looking forward to pics of the ventral coloration.

Totally unqualified to speculate on the morph, but wow that pattern is sharp Best of luck with the offspring!

That side patterning is really cool... One of my Mexican hogs is doing the same thing... Pretty cool
