Who knows how the Galvans eventually produced the Granite Phase Mex Mex?
I hear that it is a line bred trait, but I wonder if they began with classic looking Mex Mex....started seeing aberrancies and line bred for more aberrancies......Or if they had a somewhat granite looking phenotype they started with.
Right now there are 4 or so different "looks" to what we call a granite phase Mex Mex....I wonder if less speckled ones we are seeing are just in a different phase of line breeding and they need to be more refined before reaching that "ultra-granite" phenotype....
I am also curious if there are different lines out there....I hear all of the European Granites originated here in Texas (from the Galvans)......Did others produce their own lines?
I was told long ago by a buddy of mine that if you line breed the Split saddled Mex Mex specimens you will eventually produce a granite....I wonder if this is true.....
Back before my hiatus I had some nice split saddled Mex Mex but never got to see any eggs in 2006 when I paired them up.....
I did purchase a NICE split banded/saddled female from Mark Kenderdine at the Daytona show last year.....I am thinking of pairing her up with a normal or split saddled male next year or in 2012 and trying to line breed for some granites....
I wonder how many generations it will take.....Or if it will happen at all.....
