Snake Invaders article for kids

Miloradovich Mar 03, 2010 03:24 PM

My wife was a subsitute teacher for a 4th grade class yesterday and brought home a copy of the Scholastic News that she read with the kids for me to see. I think it was probably a good day for her to be a sub, she was able to go into more detail with the kids than the normal teacher most likely would have.

I scanned the cover and the 2 page article to share here. I like the "burmese python" that the kids are holding in the main photo.

Thanks for sharing

I have to say I'm not very happy with unfounded , unscientific ,
unproven propaganda about these Non native Constrictor species
being stated as facts and provided as such to school children.

That is really hard for me to swallow. Some organization
printing up information about this topic and distributing it
as fact to those kids in any number of school districts across
any number of states I would imagine.

At least towards the end they tried to balance the story out a little.

There are simply no facts about the impact these Non Native
constrictors are having in/on the "ENP". Whether the impact
is maybe good or bad we don't know. Because as far as I know
no one has gathered (over a number or years) that
unbiased information yet.

Hey, at least it's a large python.

I saw one story about giant constrictors....a web page, I think...that had a photo of a ball python as its illustration....
