You had to search for a long time for a baby Sav? Where do you live...Alaska?

Nice looking Sav! Good luck and enjoy!

Just want to start of with congrats and I have no expirience with moniters yet but from the research Ive been doing and the care sheets ive read a enclosure that size is to large for a hatchling thay can get themselves in trouble with temps and running out of energy trying to catch prey and the stress of to large a enclosure you should start it a 20 or 30 gallon long tank with the top covered, proper temp/hum so you can moniter activity and food intake better and when it grows and gets stronger you move it up to 2 or 3 raise up encosures and then the final large enclosure Im sure these other guys will chime in and give you better info congrats and good luck

The struggles concerning a larger cage for a hatchling have to do with the inadequacies of the keeper, not the animal itself.

It is harder for the KEEPER to provide a proper setup and keep track of progress in a large setup. In a terrific setup 30 ft long, a hatchling would do just fine. YOU might never find it in that cage, but given a proper setup, the animal itself will be just fine.

When i was looking for one i didnt think he would be this small. The other one i got was a good bit bigger so i wanted to have a nice setup. I went out today and got a 40 gal critter cage for him and im going to build a top for it. The last few day when i feed him i pull him out and put him in a 10 gal with crickets which seems to work fine atm. He seems to eat really good and looks great.
