Albino Boas

sandnmyteeth2 Mar 05, 2010 12:18 AM

Hi my name is Shawn, I am not new to boas, however I am new to morphs. I just purchased 2 female albino Red Tail boas. After I purchased them I was told by another source that only a few of the albino red tail boas have working reproductive organs. I have searched online for information supporting this, but have not had any luck. The parents of the snakes that I purchased were an albino male bred to a het. female. If anyone can help clear up this information for me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Whoever told you that is a Bone Head !

What I can suggest is to get at least one unrelated male to breed
to the Fems if your plans are to breed

Two unrelated males is even a better idea

To produce Albino type Boas you need at least another Boa that is
Heterozygous for Albino , Homozygous (visual) can be better.

Do your best to research , do alot of research so you understand
what it is you might be planning to do

There are many websites and Forums that can aid you
in your education.

Study hard

Good Luck

Actually,
Many people do have problems getting "female" Albinos boas to reproduce.
It seems to be a hit or miss thing. Sometimes you'll get a litter and sometimes they'll make you think they're sterile.

It's only been the females that "seem" to have this problem. I don't know it it's because they lack working reproductive organs(sterile) or they just never ovulate. Either way, Albino females seem to have a higher rate of "not" reproducing.

Of course, they don't have to be Albinos to not ovulate. Normal colored boas will also make you think they lack working reproductive organs. Some people try for "years" to get a female to successfully breed, but never seem to get them to do it.

It could be that it's all a hit or miss senerio. It could be that some Boas "are" born sterile. It could be that some just don't get what they need to ovulate. I don't think that anyone really knows the answer to that question.

So, grab an unrelated male. Wait!!! there's no such thing as an "unrelated" male when you're talking about Albino boas.
So, grab an male that's "not directly related" to your females.
Then give the girls 3 to 4 years to mature. Then when they're ready. Let them go for it.
