Help with due date

drasticplastic Mar 05, 2010 03:10 AM

I'm just curious if I'm doing my math correctly. I put my male triple het with my female albino and here is my timeline so far: (female stats only)

Introduced 11/28/09
Shed 12/2/09
Possible Copulation 12/09/09
Separated to feed 12/12/09 (ate)
Re-intruduced 12/25/09
Possible Copulation 01/05/10
Separated to feed 01/29/10 (refused)
Re-introduced 02/06/10
Separated to feed 02/17/10 (ate)
Shed 02/21/10

The male hasn't been in her cage since 2/17 and I never saw her ovulate but am I safe to assume her POS could have been on 12/2 and her due date is April 1st?

I'm going to vote no on this one. I've read that some males young males will continue to copulate after a female ovulates but this is not the norm so put him back in with her.

I removed him on the 17th because since they were re-introduced on the 6th he showed no interest in her. My female seems to have that deflated look to her and has been in (what looks like) the heat conservation position for a while now. Since then I have introduced him to another female, but it looks like he doesn't want much from her either. I can try and put him back with the albino if you think I need to, but she does look like my past pregnant female with the deflated look. Why can't they make it easy for me? Lol. Thanks for the response and I would also like to hear what others think as well.

Your original question was would it be safe to assume the 12-2 date was her POS.

Introduced 11/28/09
Shed 12/2/09

A Post Ovualtion Shed happens about 16 days after Ovulation. According to your records her ovulation would have had to been before introduction of the male. When I first put my only pair together this year they actually both shed.I saw many signs I mistook for ovulation but it happens the things I saw were merely the female gettin herself primed for the final show.

Here I am answering your question with this one columbian breeding under my belt....at least the things I saw are still fresh in my mind

I have had a gravid girl go through 2 sheds this year and another gravid girl that has not had a shed in 4 months, not even a POS.

At one point I had thrown the males back in with the first mentioned boa and they both still copulated and she was 2.5 months gravid!

How do I know?

I was able to pick up a fetal doppler off ebay for roughly 80$ and confirmed heartbeats on both cases one week later.
Get yourself one of those and you will not be in doubt any longer. I could pick up faint heartbeats as soon as 6 weeks after ovulation

I ordered a 3 mhz doppler myself. Hopefully by the end of march I'll be able to hear something. Were your males young?

The motley is 26 months and a stud that proved out at 16 months old.
The albino is almost 4
