red albino shedding

kpflounder Mar 06, 2010 08:34 AM

Our albino candy cane is turning a cloudy (over her red, she now looks rusty and gray). My kids keep looking at her eyes. Will the albino snakes turn blue before shedding, like other snakes?
There is a very slight gray tint to her red eyes. My kids are watching her with anticipation to see and record any changes. Especially to see how her shed compares to a common brown corn hatchling shed.

I have seen the eyes and bellys of shedding snakes turn a fairly bright and distinct sky blue, and some snakes hardly show evidence or cloudiness at all. They all seem to be different. It may not turn the classic "blue" you sometimes see in pictures, etc. Amels and snows seem to show the least changes IMO, and sometimes I have a hard time seeing the "blueing" on my amel and snow corns. Cool experiment though for your kids to observe the differences in shed coloration between amels and normals!!

she's difinitely going into shed.
Thing to note, though...She will clear up and you will wonder why you can't find the sloughed skin...but...they usually don't shed until three or four days after they clear back up.

We have shedding charts for them. And acid free markers to write cool observations about each shed - they the observation and the shed are kept in a clear page protector in each snakes chart. I'm trying to make this as fun-ducational as possible!
However, they kids (ages 8, 9, 9) are very concerned that we haven't taught them to breed yet... Yeah, you can laugh at them.
