Sons kingsnake got into a sticky trap

joann42 Mar 06, 2010 07:32 PM

we warmed up the trap and got her off but she is still really sticky. How do I get this stuff off??? I used soap and then I tried some cooking oil which seemed to work but dont know if that will be bad for her if I leave a bit on?

Any other ideas? I put her on papertowels hopefully they wont stick to her too much.

She managed to squeeze through the lid of the rubber maid shoebox right were the thermostat probe wire lifted it just a bit.I put her in the ten gallon tank now with good solid clips, she aint getting out of that.

You can take off most of the cooking oil with dish soap and water, then just rub a bunch of fine powdery dirt or flour on the snake. This will keep the remaining trap glue from being so sticky, then the snake should go into "shed-mode" to rid itself of the remainder soon after.

Good old hand lotion will not only get it off but leave a nice healthy skin behind.

ALso if you would have put hand lotion on the sticky trap, the snake will come right off. Cheers

Thanks all. I read about using the powder in the archives after I posted, guess I should have scouted before posting. She seems fine today with just a hint of stickyness..Its actually a good thing she got on the sticky trap because the front half of her body was under the wall and if she had gotten in there she would have been a goner.
She is one of our favorites too.
