Feeding

prpipes1 Sep 20, 2003 10:41 PM

I have bought a Hi-yellow black rat snake and I bought it as a hatchling. I never thought to ask the guy if she was eating or how old she was.I now have the problem of getting her to eat.I am trying pre-killed but she will not even strike. Should I try live pinkies and if I do how haed will it be to change her over to prekilled once she gets older?

First, try cutting the head off a pre-killed one. That has worked for me with a problem feeder. Make sure that you are not stressing the new snake out by handling, etc, until you get him eating regularly.
You can try a live pink if you can't get him to eat pre-killed.
You will probably get him to switch without too much trouble later, but you need to solve your present problem now, so if the headless pink does not work, a live would be OK. Good luck.

I already tried the pinky split and still no response.I have barely handled the animal because I was waiting for her to eat. I am going to give in and go live tomorrow morning

I bought two pinky hamsters and she took them both about I will probably not try frozen food again what all I have left will go to the snappers.
