Gorgeous! I love them. One tip i have heard is that if you want to use a leash with these lizards put a section of bungie string in the leash so that if he jumps and runs out of rope he wont hurt his back...

Is he tolerant of handeling and humans????

TSUSnakeGuy Mar 11, 2010 11:10 PM

He is a little jumpy when you first reach in for him but calms down. He hasn't tried to bite me. On a rare occasion he may open his mouth and swell up his neck but then stops after you are holding him for a little.

Why would you put your monitor on a leash? You have a monitor that dose not like human interaction,so you put him on a leash and parried him around like a dog.Do some research on the monitor that you have, and make sure you have him set up properly, before should start worrying about what sex you have.

I put him on a leash because he is small and very fast and I wanted to take him outside. He doesn't hate human interaction, he just moves fast and I dont want him to take off. Maybe you should find out stuff before you make assumptions.

You are taking an animal that is tremendously susceptible to stress and subjecting it to a tremendous amount of stress before it has even been acclimated in its enclosure. Many monitors do not outwardly show signs of stress until it is too late. Your lack of knowledge of the animal you just bought is going to prove to cause quite a bit of health problems. The simple fact that it has "not bitten you yet" is far from an indicator that you are doing anything correctly.

I'd ask you to post photos of its enclosure, but I already suspect what it looks like.

sulfurboy1o3 Mar 12, 2010 01:32 PM

Does it still eat a lot of roaches, tsusnakeguy? Haven't seen you active in a while. Come to the chat tonight, man!

tsusnakeguy Mar 12, 2010 09:50 PM

Ok so you went ahead and started to lecture me before finding out anything about my animal or me. How long do you assume I have had this monitor? What do you think my enclosure looks like? I would like to konw the answers to these before I correct you.

Your going to bash someone for walking a bluetail on a leash? Your calling them out about husbandry and YOU KNOW NOTHING about the op?? You ASSume a lot! Maybe you can tell me if I'm doing ok with MY bluetail? All I can say is WOW!! I'm going back to my usual forums where their are people with advice and friendly help instead of jearks that slam people when THEY KNOW NOTHING about the keepers knowledge or husbandry skills... what a great first impression of the monitor forums.

For those of you who are not jerks and help people out, I understand that monitor people are no different that most reptile people and I don't hold all of you accountable for one persons post..

just wanted to say dont pay attention what everyone says, i know some people are just trying to help you out but others seem like they have something negative to say to anyone who posts pictures up. Dont get upset about it, they just dont have anything better to do with their lives. by the way your blue tail is awsome! two thumbs up!

take care

tsusnakeguy Mar 12, 2010 09:52 PM

Thank you for the reply. I hate when folks post replies without knowing anyting about the person that made the post. I really like this monitor, he is fairly easy to handle and seems to be doing very good for the entire time I have had him.

Hello,
It's not about the person but rather what is known about the lizard. YOU enjoy it... -Mike S
