I'm not sure if any of you remember me, but I was posting in the tegu section around March-April in hopes of getting a tegu, but I adopted a 3.5 foot male ig instead. Well, this weekend I went out of town & stopped at a pet store 30 mins outside of where I live & they had a 13-14 inch red tegu for $120, I am guessing it is btwn 3-4 months. The pet store has no idea whether it is Argentine or CB, they told me to come back Monday to talk to the guy who is in charge of the reptiles. Otherwise they really didn't know anything about it & are keeping it with an adult blue tongued skink in a 15 gallon enclosure! They said he hasn't been handled much or paid much attention to but I asked to hold it & see it anyway, let me tell you, what a nice lizard! It looks as if something could be wrong with it's right eye, so a vet visit might be in order. Anyway, I fell in love on the spot & am already planning to hopefully go back & pick it up later this week or next if he is what I am looking for & if the store's "reptile guy" can answer my Q's.
However, I have gotten a new computer since March & have lost all my history & favorite sites which had all my lizard care sheets & info on it. I do remember the care sheet on bluetegu.com & have checked that out already. I was hoping you guys could point me in the right direction towards tegu care based on fact sheets & personal experience... i.e. the best substrate (dirt or bark, and how deep?), best enclosure setups (more climbing or more hiding, and how do you make a "moist hide box"?), recommended temps & humidity, best diet, etc. I plan on keeping him in a glass tank that is apprx 4ft x 2.5ft x 3ft. Thanks for your help...
