feeding chicks?

joann42 Mar 12, 2010 05:42 PM

Its chick season and I was wondering if its okay to buy a few for my boa.My big concern is if they are fed medicated chick starter.Should I keep them a few days on reg. unmedicated food just to clear it out?

I also wonder if a 2 or 3 day old chick is too big for my 2ft boa.Its hard to tell how big the chicks are with all that fluff..Obviously I can buy the smaller breed baby chicks, kinda expensive but I only have the one boa so I dont mind spending a bit. I know the straight runs are usually pretty cheap..

This is just my opinion, but I would stay with mice if possible. Chicks don't have the tissue mass or mineral content of an adult mouse. I know that some people like to vary the diet of their boids, but if you are buying quality raised rodents, there is really no need to feed anything else.

I feed mine rodents and chicks and they are thriving. I have always included chicks in all my snakes diet.
