Brands of Mercury Vapor Lights

mariza Sep 21, 2003 05:47 AM

I`ve been looking at mercury vapor lights, and from what I see, the Powersun (ZooMeds) and ActivUV Heat (T-Rex) seem to be the most popular/advertised. I`ve also come across these brands:

1. Capture the Sun (Big Apple Herpetelogicals)
2. UltraLux (Dragonlights)
3. Astralux (Kauslaumayer)

Has anyone had any experience with any of these three? Does anyone know how any of them compare to the Powersun and ActivUV Heat in terms of strength, longevity, warranty, etc.?

If one is advertised for a reptile (lizard, iguana, etc.) can it be used for a turtle (RES) as well? Thanks for any input.

Stay away from the Capture the Sun bulbs, I have tried two of them, and neither one lasted longer than 3 weeks. The powersuns last for about 8 months before the ballast gets loose and the light starts turning on and off.

Is a high pressure sodium light the same thing as a mercury vapor light?

Thanks so much for the information on Capture the Sun bulbs. Their hype is really good (new technology, lasts longer, etc.), and I was leaning toward getting one. In the absence of any other info, Powersun seems to be the way to go. Thanks again.
