Dirt Question

rottenweiler9 Mar 15, 2010 09:31 AM

How often do you replace the dirt. I have two little ackies and rearly see poop or pee. I do throw a couple gallons of water a week in there to keep the dirt good. I just want to make sure I have a clean cage for them. Thoughts?

Rarely ever; infact the only time I have changed dirt is to try somthing else. Other than that there is no need, unless need arises in which case it is probably going to be cuased by an exogenous factor and not the lizards daily life cycle.

Cheers,
Mike.

Completely agree - I never change mine. Every 6 mo or so Ill add 5-10 gallons of dirt depending how much drains out each day when I change the water. If you only have an inch or two of dirt, then it might start to stink or if your monitor doesn't do his business in the water. I don't keep a ton of dirt but mine is usually around 6-9 inches.
