HELP FEMALE LAID EGGS

mike3 May 25, 2003 06:57 PM

I went to check on my female and saw her in the nesting box with two eggs. So I took the eggs and put them in the incubator so there wouldn't be a chance of her breaking the eggs with her nails. Then I checked on her again and there were three eggs so I did the same. Then I checked on her again and there were two eggs and one egg was half way out of her. After she laid the last egg there are a total of 8 eggs. Since she laid a bad egg four days ago she laid a total of 9 eggs but 8 of them are fertile. Since I attained her gravid she didn't eat too much while she was gravid, so she is really skinny ring now both her tail and her stomach. After she laid her eggs she ate one peice of lettice and then I gave her a warm bath and she drank a lot. After her warm bath I took her outside so she could get some sunlight. What should I do to fatten her up. I already tried insects but she didn't seem intrested. Should i try a few crickets again? Is haveing a very skinny tail and body after egg laying normal?

I got my uro as a skinny little guy and what i did to fatten him up is a lot of peas mixed in with his salad. I also gave him a little bit of pedialite in a smalldish and this stimulated his diet somewhat. what really stimulated appetite was bee pollen granules. You can get them at a health food store and there not too expensive. Be sure to ask for granules or they moght give you capsules.

She will stay VERY skinny for a quite awhile. It is not a bad idea to offer her a little water- this is one of the few times Uro's will drink. Stick with her normal diet and don't stress her out - her 'look' sounds perfectly normal. It will take a couple weeks (at least) until she returns to her normal weight. Be careful, a lot of Uros that are purchased gravid have a hard time dealing with the stress. I had a breeder tell me to avoid them at all costs- according to him, a lot of them don't survive. For that reason, I would try to keep things very quiet for her. I don't think you should even try soaking her for a couple weeks - it is not needed and will probably add to her stress. Normal diet- low stress- shallow bowl of drinking water. Good luck.

I totally agree with the things chrisW says.
Rest and normal food will recuperate her again.
Congratulations with the eggs. Let´s hope you get 8 healthy young.

Thank you for all of your useful advice. I think that she isn't very stressed out because she will let me hold her and she loves to explore. I have one more question. How long does it take for mali uromastyx eggs to hatch. I looked at deer fern farms and he said about 55-65 days. Is this the same time for mail's too?

PS
I am looking for a name for my male and female mali uromastyx. Are there any cool African or Egyptian names out there or any cool uromastyx names?.
