BobLabla Mar 17, 2010 08:19 AM

What exactly is a super oketee as compared to a regular oketee? I recently saw this type and didnt notice anything super about it?

Bob, if I had to quess it was probably a breeder just trying to differentiate his okees from everyone elses. Maybe the line was produced by crossing well known great lines together, or was line bred using great bloodlines to produce consistently nice okees in the breeders opinion. I am not aware of a verifiable "super" Okeetee morph like the "extreme" hypo honduran milks or "High expression pied" blood corns out there.

I guess it "could" be possible someone was marketing theirs for being an exceptionally large bloodline. As Okeetee's from the Jasper county region of South Carolina can be some of the largest corns known(up to 6 feet). Or as Kevin mentioned that they were outstanding looking. But then again, many of them are..LOL!

Another possibility would be if you flipped them over, they could be sporting a big "S" on their chests..

I pick "C" big S
or someone just trying to make theirs sound better so they can try to get more for them

Thanks Jimmy, and everyone for the kind words but, like I've stated before,my first breeders were yearlings hand picked by Ben Seigle. He purchased them from Lee Abbott! The one pictured is not a full Abbott however,he is part okeetee from unknown origin. His mother was from a young lady in Richmond Va. Take care! Jeff

Forgot to mention in the earlier post. What makes Howie Sherman's okeetees special (in my opinion anyway)is that his stuff all came from w/c lineage with no blood from other folks influence! At least that's what I've heard from a friend who saw the amel. in person! Jeff

DMong Mar 19, 2010 10:23 AM

His are derived from W/C stock from the property. He yold me a long time ago that out of MANY eggs that he produced from one of those locality pairings, only ONE was an amel!. That certainly wasn't from the parents being het for the trait, but rather one cool authentic anomaly derived from W/C Jasper County Okeetees.

Very special indeed that he produced a genuine 100% amel W/C Okeetee.

I guess I look at it like this,Look at Jeff's,Kathy's,Lee's,and Jimmy's Okeetees....They speak 4 them self,no need to come up with some fancy name 4 them......They speak loud enough on there own......lol

DMong Mar 18, 2010 01:40 AM

I cannot believe I was just looking around and saw a reference to "super Okeetees" on my friend Howie Sherman's website..LOL!

Now, I know for a fact Howie does have locality Okeetee's from the 50,000 acre Okeetee Hunt Club, and he also produced an amel years ago from two corns captured on the property.

Here is the quote from his site...........

"The classic corns (my super Okeetees) made famous from Carl Kauffeld's

Snakes and Snake Hunting". Rich orange with vermilion red saddles that are boldly

outlined in black. My adults average 4 to 6 feet so expect better than average

length/growth. Still in my opinion the most beautiful snake in the world"
