The 1 ft of tank per foot of snake rule.

bonio100 Sep 21, 2003 10:17 AM

Does this mean

1 sq foot of ground space per foot of snake

OR

1 cubic foot of space per foot of snake?

Thanks

I was among the first to suggest square footage per foot of snake for cage area. But it was more complicated than just one square foot of floor space per foot of snake. Now I suggest minimal cage floor area equivalent to that of a cage half the snake's length long and a quarter of the snake's length wide.

minimum cage area (square inches) = (1/2 snake length in inches) * (1/4 snake length in inches)

Height varies for different species; some need more than others.

Hope this helps.
