Human health question pertaining to chameleons

Chameleon996 Sep 21, 2003 10:18 AM

If I were to get pregnant could my various lizards be harmful to my babies health? I already have one kid but I didn't have any lizards at that time. I plan on asking my doctor, I just wanted some input from other keepers.

From what I know, salmonella would be the only thing to worry about. However, it's easier to get salmonella from handing raw chicken than it is to get it from a herp. Most chicken eggs sold for human consumption have some strain or salmonella. Your cat or dog could be a carrier as well.

Hand washing with anti-bacterial soap should be fine. I really don't think that it's a reason to get rid of your herps. Just my opinion.

good luck with that...
